2014 (9th ) China Outdoor Industry Report Released at Asia Outdoor Trade Show

The Asia Outdoor Trade Show was held in NanJing during July 23 to 26. The day at news conference, the exhibition organizer announced latest survey on China outdoor industry. According to the survey, Chinese outdoor market size increased by 12.9% in 2013 than in 2012, the overall scale reached RMB 38.8 billion (In 2012: RMB 32.6 billion yuan) . Outdoor core market size reached RMB 15.38 billion, increased by 12.9% in 2013 than in 2012.

‘After market volatility period from 2011 to 2012, outdoor core brands are optimistic for the future of the industry. In the past 2 years, China outdoor market was not booming, brand competition intensified, the growth rate of retail terminal was faster than market demand. In 2013, the ratio of market sales channel and market share looks much more balanced.’ said by Mr Jaeger, chairman of BeiJing Demans Exhibition Consulting Co., Ltd. who explained the changing outdoor market within last 2 years. BeiJing Demans Company is the partner of NanJing Asia Outdoor Trade Show, which began to organize China outdoor market research since 2010.

‘China outdoor market will maintain the growth rate between 12% to 15% in future, compares to the growth rate between 1% to 2% of European outdoor market, the development of China outdoor market is striking.’ Mr. Jaeger analyzed China outdoor market like this.

‘How many people are there in China for outdoor sports? For a vast country, it is indeed a tough question to answer.’ According to the latest survey data shows that about 130 million people engage all kinds of outdoor sports including hiking and other recreational sports. While according to the data provided by Chinese Mountaineering Association, nearly 60 million people participate in more professional outdoor sports including mountain climbing, rock climbing, adventure as well as long distance on foot. By contrast, Germany has around 80 million residents to participate in mountaineering, rock climbing, hiking, lightweight hiking and other outdoor sports usually. The number accounts for half of the total population in Germany. But in China, the ratio of people joined in the movement is less than 10%.
